The Pollyanna Principle
I expect some of you remember Pollyanna? She was the little girl who saw the silver lining in every cloud and who turned every negative into a positive. She was perceived as a bit of a pain (as positive sparks usually are when they shine too brightly) but in the end, Pollyanna spread much joy to all around her, especially those in greatest need.
I was going to a place of work today, where I occasionally help out at The Big House near where I live. The lady of the house organises corporate lunches for the guests of the Pheasant Shoot on the land, and I go along and wash dishes, serve food and generally clear up after these people. Most of the people I work alongside are lovely and we have a great time... but one of them, who comes occasionally to cook for the party, is a Major League Pain in the Ass!
She is not only an embittered old spinster, but she is nasty about everyone and everything and she is also very difficult to be around. I have tried every way to deal with this person, and today, I decided to be Pollyanna around her. Guess what? No problem. She even helped us to wash the dishes and clear the dining table, and then she offered to make us a cup of coffee... all this (I believe) because I decided to look for the good in her. However small.. I decided she had pretty hair, and even though her eyes were like gimlets(!) they were a very lovely shade of blue. I noticed that she was actually the best cook in the team, and also that she was fastidious about tidiness, which helped us to do our jobs more efficiently. Later, when we were sitting round a huge log fire, drinking coffee and eating her delicious chocolate pudding and cream, she was enquiring of my friend about a brace of pheasant, saying she would love to have some for supper. The only thing was, and here her vulnerability came out, she confessed she was TERRIFIED of feathers! I suddenly saw in this cold, harsh woman a frightened little girl, defending herself to the core, and I softened and said, 'oh, Bless You Jane, that can't be pleasant in your line of work'... and she huffed and puffed a little but I know I saw a softening in her eyes.
Just being Pollyanna for the day changed my perspective on someone, and in turn changed my vibrational mix and stance, and subsequently changed her behaviour. It also became clear to me that my favourite little girl character was not just a character. She was and is real. She is the Source in all of us...
Well, tomorrow I think I'll start a Pollyanna Diary. Watch this space folks...

I am so glad, Joy-Lise... it's a fanastic book and story (there was a movie made some years ago, and I loved it)... just one of my favourite bits of reading... I have many!!! love and hugs, Jay xxx

What a lovely story and when you show an opening for softening for her it is an opening for softening for you. I want to believe that the best parts in me can line up with the best parts in others, and we can have a wonderful time together.
I want to be more Pollyanna too!

Well, I think it is amazing that in the last week, my daily fix (!) in the form of daily quotes from Abraham, contained this one:
